  1. I already completed the hard part and have a VCD compliant file and under 700 megs.

I just want to convert my VCD MPG1 file on a regular CD so it will play in my DVD player. I want to play this file as soon as the unit is turned on without any menus showing up.

My first choice would be Nero. Also, let me know of any other easy quick solutions.

Can anybody point me to the quick solution on this?

    Thanks!

Don't sell yourself short -- if you have Standard VCD-Compliant mpegs (and can author and burn properly using a "VCD" Burn Mode), then you should be able to get ~800mb on an 80-minute CD-R. Go by the "minutes", not the size of the VCD mpeg.

No, no no. Nero is infamous for reencoding perfectly good source material for no reason, ruining what "quality" is left after your conversion from ???? to VCD std.
Add to that, some versions of Nero produce non compliant VCD, and it's out entirely of the picture for this task.

Vcdgear to create the image file (cue/bin). Burnatonce to burn the image file to CD. Both freeware.

  6. My file is a MPG1 VCD file.

I now need to convert it again in order to burn it on a regular CD to play on a DVD player?

There is no way to use this mpg1 file to make it read by a DVD player now?

just burn it as a data cd on a rw and check on your player. quite a few players can play mpgs without burning them as a video cd.

Most (maybe "every", but being cautious) DVD player can play a VCD.

Or if you mean you just want to burn the mpeg as a data disc, that may work, but the player may require you to select the file on screen and press play. If you make it in VCD format, it will just start.

    VCDGear is really easy.
    Click "Video-CD"
    Select "mpeg to cue/bin"
    Start

You can use Nero to burn the resulting cue/bin.

  9. To use VCDGear could you go over the steps again?

    I get the following error:

"Unable to open CD-i application files. Check you configuration."

Yeah IIRC (haven't used in awhile) you have to navigate to your vcdgear folder and click on cd-i or any other warnings it gives you.

You said you wanted vcd. That means you still have to author as vcd. If you burn the mpeg1 as data then it isn't a vcd. Like I said above vcdgear can author/create the image files and insert the necessary files and header to make a compliant vcd, to be burned to a CD.

    Sounds like incomplete installation.
You should have first installed 3.55, then do the 3.56 update:

    See http://www.vcdgear.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=458

Did you follow the instructions in the posts I linked?

I installed this a long time ago myself, I don't remeber if I had that problem.

    VCDGear also has a forum.

If you want to try VCDEasy, it's a bit more complex to use, but has more features.

pic1 - this is how vcdgear should be setup. Click on VideoCd Options:

pic2 - click on each one and navigate to your vcdgear folder under CDI:

pic3 - for example first one you should click on CDI_IMAG:.RTF

Do it for each one then it should work by then

For an actual "VCD-compliant" MPEG1 file, you don't have to "convert" anything for it to be playable on a >>edit: DVD player<<<. Just AUTHOR it.

I strongly recommend VCDEasy. What you ended up doing in VCDGear would take less steps in VCDEasy (even though it does give you the possibility of more options). Drag-n-drop your file (making sure you've set the right kind of disc--"VCD") and create. If you have a compatible burner selected (and a blank in the drive), it'll author, compile a backup XML of the structure, compile a bin/cue and burn your disc! (IMHO, it also does a much more thorough job of "ripping" a VCD to standard MPG1 than anything else).

***NOTE: VCD's don't "Autorun" in most DVD players. Not like DVD's can. It's strictly dependent upon the model (and this feature is rare).

If you're talking about the whole setup from the screenshots above that is a one time thing because he just dl'd the app. In the future all he has to do to create cue/bin files is just load the mpg and hit start.

Actually, he'd need to click on the [Video-CD] tab/pane/button at the top (IIRC, it usually default to [VCDGear]), and select "mpeg -> cue/bin [cd image] in the drop down, click [Start], then load the resultant cue/bin in a burning app and burn.

With VCDEasy, you'd select the VCD 1.1 (or VCD 2.0) and NTSC (or PAL if appropriate) from the dropdown boxes (it would have already defaulted to theVideoCD Authoring Tool/tab/pane upon opening, and would have remembered the burning options from the last time), drag-n-drop the file, and click [Go]. Done!

We're arguing about the difference between two clicks and three.

However, having used both, I think VCDGear is simpler to use for the first time.
There are more features in VCDEasy, which can be confusing.
The burning option never worked for me, I had to use Fireburner.

VCDs, and audio CDs, just start to play on loading in my DVD player, though as you say, that isn't universal.

Being new to vcdgear, I was getting the same error message as Excelsior123 but after following your direction, NO MORE ERROR. THANKS Pinstripes23, your genius is much appreciated
