    Hi guys,

I would like to digitize our family memories, which were recorded with a Sony CCD F 385E.
That camera is broken, so I tried a Sony CCD TR 606E, which gives me only black and white video (cable connection is correct, live footage from that camera is very poor quality, but with color).

Should recordings between Sony CCD F and Sony CCD TR be compatible, or are there minor format changes?
Is it possible, that my TR 606E is partially broken - something like a broken color head??? Or is it an all or nothing situation?

    Thank you for your help.

    Cheers
    Michael

i'd try another camcorder. sounds to me like the 606e isn't working properly. all v8 tapes should play back in color properly on working v8 camcorders.

In software, if you tell the capture program (like Virtualdub) to capture S-Video but it's actually a composite input (and vice versa) then you will get a B&W image. So make sure your program has the correct input type. Also make sure your proamp saturation settings are normal.

Are you sure it's a PAL recording? Otherwise, the camera is misadjusted or broken.

    PAL/NTSC also my first guess.
I don't think Video8 rolls like VHS, just present as stretched B&W.

    Thanks guys.
I checked the connection via the live recording of the camera. The live image works fine, just playing a prerecorded (with another camera) tape is black and white.

I try to look for a different camera...

Yes, that was clear from the OP. But you didn't answer our question about signal format. How do you know this is a PAL tape?

Hm, ok I didn't see a problem in that question.
I'm just assuming that it is PAL, since it was the camera of my father CCD F 385E bought and used in Germany. How would I check that?
Is it possible to switch a camera between PAL/NTSC?
