What format do you listen to your computer music files?

I listen to mainly mp3 with a few midi and wav files.Since halloween is over i decide to put up another poll.

FLAC all the way, saves some space (LOL) yet retains the full quality, and some 5.1 WAV files that i ripped from my DVD-Audio disc's along with some DTS audio.

I have about 50gigs of music on my main PC.

Most of the music i listen to synthesized so MP3 is fine for it, but for classical, Jazz or live performances i use flac.

I use 320kbps AAC encoded by NeroAACenc through foobar2000. I'd be interested in hearing what bitrates other people rip at (and which their favoured encoders are), and what bitrate they would consider unlistenable.

For me, I can't listen to anything under 192kbps MP3 or 128kbps AAC as the quantisation noise (especially in orchestral music) is too distracting.

The bulk of my files are 320kbps MP3s. This gives me the flexibility to listen on a computer, iPod, stream via the PS3 to my home theater system or to put them on a flash drive to listen to in the car. It's the best balance that I can find between quality and flexibility. I keep some things in FLAC format if the quality is super important.

Unfortunately anything purchased from iTunes comes in AAC format. I like some independent musicians that are just too difficult to find on CD and rip myself. These files are often converted to MP3 for portability or just burned onto CDs for use in the car.

I use to think that as well, I would rip my most cherished music at 224 bit-rate or higher and thought this provide good enough quality. A friend introduced me to Flac and the quality was heads and tails above my MP3 rips. Now I prefer to use flac over mp3 but my car doesn't understand flac.

To listen and store in my computer, I use MP3 VBR at ~190kbps (LAME preset V2). But to archive or burn into Audio CD, I use lossless formats (FLAC, Monkey's Audio, WavPack) when possible.

I indicated MP3 but actually, I don't listen to music files on my computer. However, I do have audio books in MP3 format as well as documentary soundtracks converted to MP3. Usually converted to 128kbs. Beats looking for the disks.
