Hello, complete noob here, I came here because the Forums link on the Aegisub website seems to be dead, and Google brought me here…

I'm subbing a video clip that has translations for signs located across the picture (see attached image). I need to hard code the subtitles into the video file. Previously my workflow has always been to export as a .srt file, and use Handbrake to load the external .srt file and "burn in" the subtitles, but it seems that exporting as .srt destroys the positioning info. How do I hardsub onto the video while preserving the positioning?

As seen in the screenshot, I'm on a Mac, but if there's Windows-only software I must use, I can always use a Windows virtual machine. Also, sorry in advance to any Canadians out there who might be offended by the screenshot; it's a clip from Michael Moore's Canadian Bacon, which of course is a film making fun of Canadians (with Canadian actors).

  2. 1. In Aegisub save subtitle as Advanced Substation Alpha (.ass)
    2. Mux video + ass using mkvtoolnix (include fonts as mkv attachment)
    3. Load mkv from step 2 in HandBrake and burn-in
