  1. I have an old system, so I need older software.

I've been looking for software that will record the screen and ideally, record gameplay in fullscreen emulators and such.

I thought I had found what I was looking for in CamStudio, but it gives me an error when telling it to record audio from the speakers and none of the fixes suggested online have helped.

At once time I had Flashback Express installed, which was supposed to be freeware, but after using it once, I loaded it up one day and it complained that it was unregistered. I've tried going to their website, but it sends every browser I try to use off into limbo.

Searching Google is pretty much useless since "freeware" now apparently means "time-limited, feature-crippled trialware".

So does anyone know of truly free software that will record video and audio under Windows XP?

All the rest are paid or trial versions.

Thanks, but that doesn't work properly either.

Desktop mode records the desktop (no mouse pointer), but no sound. Direct Show mode only lets me choose Default and None for the video and neither records any video. Additionally, the audio that Direct Show records has a pronounced echo, like a second copy of the sound is playing a second out of sync with the first one. So, that isn't going to work either.

  6. Why not pay a little money and get something that actually works?
