My VCR has recently begun to display video like the video shows. Sometimes it fades in and out smoothly, sometimes the frame seems to slip upwards and snap back down.
I have tested the VHS tapes in another VCR and it works fine.

Can anyone provide any light as to what is causing this and whether it is fixable?

    Thanks

    (a) have the JVC repaired, or
    (b) use the player that works.

Tape is not moving smoothly through the machine. Clean the tape path. Check the pinch roller; if it is hardened, cracked, or misshapen it needs replacement.

What model VCR? May not be worth fixing.

    A) Where can I have it repaired reputably?

    B) I want to use this one as its a good one with tbc and s-video output. The test unit I mentioned is a cheap one.

    7600EK is worth fixing.
This is probably mechanical issue with belts, maybe alignment. Just need to troubleshoot with service manual.

    SOLUTION FOUND

A moldy tape had been run through the machine resulting in white powder internally; Cleaning every possible bit the tape would touch with alcohol and lint free cloths/swabs did the trick.

    Thanks for the help.
