My still-functioning Pioneer DVR 533H recorder only takes DVD-R, NOT DVD+R. I vaguely remember trying to put longer programs on DVD-R DL (dual-layer) disks years ago, and having problems with them -- can't recall what exactly. Would like to try again, but the discs don't seem to be available anywhere in the known universe. Anybody know anything about this?

I've had good results with Plexdisc brand (aka Optodisc). You can find their line on Amazon,

DVD-R DL media has been discontinued in favor of the DVD+R format - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R_DL
i did find a 5 pack of DVD-R DL on ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-DVD-R-DL-New-Sealed-Pack-Of-5-Dual-Layer-CPRM-Clea...oAAOSwalxf3VZL and there's a few more DVD-R DL listed here that are mixed in with the +R format - https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=DVD-R+DL&_sacat=0&rt=nc&Type=DVD%252DR&_dcat=80135 -
As October pointed out -R DLs are all but gone, too bad as my Panasonic DVDRs really like the - format to +. Regular -R discs are very easy to get, -R DL again next to impossible.
