  1. How do you get h.264 intraframe only encoding?

can you encode intraframe only with x.264?

  2. with x264 you set the keyframe interval to 1

    --keyint 1

But in your case, you have to specify interlaced encoding as well, (bottom field first for DV)

    --bff

Here are the other parameters. If it's too much, try a GUI for x264, there are many to chose from

  3. And don't expect good quality with lots of compression.

  4. Or with intra for any format at low bitrates (h264 or otherwise) . Intra requires high bitrates for decent quality, it's just that h264 will be slightly better than something like MJPEG

Intra h.264 is only slightly tighter compressed vs DV or DVCProHD (4xDV) for similar quality. The formal standard is Panasonic's AVCIntra which uses 50 or 100Mb/s for 1080i or 720p vs. 100 Mb/s for DVCProHD.

For SD, DV uses 25 Mb/s. Equivalent h.264 intra only is ~14-18 Mb/s.
