  1. Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to rip a dvd (vob) to mpg with subtitles?
The ripping itself is no problem, but I want the subtitles included also.
    Thanks

If you want 1 large mpeg file you could use a program such as Vobmerger to join the vob's then rename the file extension from .vob to .mpg

you can use tmpgEnc Express , you can choose whether you want to rip vob with the subtitle or not, then the file that have been create .dvddata renamed it to .mpg

I really don't think mpg allows for subtitle streams. Hence the invention of VOB. Or am I completely wrong?

the mpeg-2 specs include a "user data" area that was supposed to be for closed captioning-not quite subtitles but close enough some folks think normal subs should be allowed in mpeg-2. i think the closest you can get is hard coded subs in mpeg-2. personally i've never seen a selectable sub in an mpeg-2 nor have i ever seen an encoder with an option to add them.
