  3. No guarantees but try this:
    In VLC, find the option for video demuxing in the preferences, it might be under 'show all' options depending on which OS and version you have. Change the video demuxer from automatic to H264 and try opening the files again. I'm guessing the 'automatic' selection can't work out the unusual format for itself but it is actually a variant of H264. Remember to change it back when you have finished.

    Perhaps this is an encryption key, but that's just a guess. Can you not contact the camera manufacturer
    for an explanation ?
