I have some AVC video that was captured with a GoPro HD Hero camera. I would like to make the following edits to the raw footage:

    • trim undesirable video
    • add transitions
    • add a 2nd audio track

Is it possible to do these edits without re-encoding? If so, using what program(s)? Below is some info on the video.

VideoRedo's new beta does trims of HD AVC material without re-encoding. It won't do transitions, and even if a smart-encoder comes along that does more than VideoRedo, transitions will have to be re-encoded (anything that changes the actual video requires re-encoding).

AVIDemux might also be able to handle your files - it handles most AVC files - and will do trimming and can add audio tracks without re-encoding. Again, no transitions though.

  3. Only a suggestion to join all your clips and cut/trim losslessly: MPEG Streamclip I use it every day for clips from my Kodak Zx1 (which I notice has a much higher bitrate than the GoPro HD Hero, typically 13mbps).
