Hallo Forum Readers
Do You know any way on how to get mpeg2 file from DVD without recompresion. Sound is in wav or mp2 stream. Movies are home made ones.
I imagine that this should be very basic operation, but I did not find any information on how to do it on LINUX.

Pawel
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Hello Pawel,
The easiest way I know how is to use Mplayer, If you have Mplayer installed, insert your DVD, open a terminal and type this command:
mplayer dvd://1 -dumpstream -dumpfile dump.vob
- This command is assuming your main movie is Title "1"
- This command will create a "dump.vob" file in your home folder, If you want the dump file to be created somewhere else put the path name before "dump.vob"
- This command is handy because it creates a single .vob file without any file splitting or compression. My Site: http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html

Hallo GMaq
Thank YOu for response.
My problem is that I want to do one step further, I mean to convert vob file into mpeg2 file without recompression.
Have You got idea on how to do this?

OK,
I'm sorry I misunderstood what you are trying to do. I haven't done this myself but you could try the MPlayer command above with "dump.mpg" instead of "dump.vob".
Have you tried AviDemux? If you open your VOB in Avidemux you could probably copy the Audio and video stream and change the container format to "Mpeg TS (A+V".My Site: http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html

These definitions are from the VideoHelp Glossary
Transport Stream (TS)
The Input of the Transport Stream Multiplexer and the Output of the Transport Stream Demultiplexer are the Video and Audio Packetized Elementary Streams (PES)
MPEG-2 Transport Stream:
may contain one or multiple programs (even with independent time-base); is suitable to no error-free transmision; has a fixed length packet structure.
Transport Packet (188 bytes)
Header: 4 bytes
Payload: 184 bytes
Transport-Stream Packet and ATM transmission
The packet length is the output of a compromise: on one hand longer the packet, lower the overhead; on the other hand shorter the packet, easier the streams syncronization.
The 188 bytes transport stream packet can be easily divided into 4 ATM cells. Each ATM cell is composed by 5 bytes of header + 1 byte for the Adaptation Layer and 47 bytes for the payload (=188/4). So a transport stream can be transmitted through ATM with the minimum overhead.
Possible operations on the Transport-Streams
Program selection and demultiplexing of its elementary streams.
Recomposition of one or more Transport-Streams into one or more different Transport-Streams.
Extraction of a given Program from a Transport-Stream and production of a Program-Stream.
Transformation of a Program-Stream into a Transport-Stream.
Program Stream
The Input of the Program Stream Multiplexer and the Output of the Program Stream Demultiplexer are the Video and Audio Packetized Elementary Streams (PES)
MPEG-2 Program Stream:
may contain a single program with a common time-base for the different PES; is suitable to error-free transmision environment;
has a variable length packet structure (where packets may be relatively large). My Site: http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html
