Yes, usually. On rare occasions I've seen youtube-dl download something less than the highest quality by default. If that happens you can use the -F switch to see what streams are available:

Then pick which stream(s) you want with the -f switch:

Sometimes the video and audio are different streams so you have to specify both with a "+" between them. Something like:

C:\>youtube-dl -f 135+140 URL...

youtube-dl works for me. Get the latest version just in case and use the -F switch to see all formats, then the -f to select just like jagabo says above.

The easiest way is to use a third party downloader, which can download through a pasted link, or by searching, for example dvdfab youtube downloader.

Hi. youtube-dl is able to download entire videos from cbc (olympics), but I was hoping to be able to use ffmpeg to specify the exact start time to only get the parts I want.

Is it because youtuble-dl creates a "session" or something that allows the servers to stream the data, but ffmpeg is trying to access the raw stream and has no access?

Any suggestions on avoiding downloading hours of video if I just want the last 60 minutes?
