Every time I open ffmpeg I am asked to install mpeg2enc etc. Why does it not get saved? (It did before). I have version 0.0.9w

    • Are you running Mac OS X 10.3 or higher? (Your computer details say different.)
    • Did you try to install the new version of the mpeg2enc binary?

Sorry for that. I updated my profile now. I downloaded all new components:

mpeg2enc.intel (should I take off ".intel"?), mencoder and mplayer.

After I install them now mpeg2enc stays, but not the other two. Them I have to reinstall??

Try checking filesizes for current binaries:
    mencoder 16,655,780 bytes
    mplayer 15,869,784 bytes

    • Is ffmpegX in your /Applications folder?
    • Did you login as Administrator?
    • Did you check the checkboxes in the installer window?
    • Did you point the installer to the un-zipped binaries with the Locate button?

    i got the same problem...
so i deleted the ffmpegx application support folder and every old mencoder/mplayer binary. Then installed everything again...
but it still asks me to install the mencoder and mplayer binaries...
the funny thing is that i can press cancel and ffmpegx just works fine, so the binaries are definitly installed...
(and they are copied into the application support folder)

  9. This is normally a permission problem. Try running fix permissions with Disk Utility. Check if binaries appear in red or black in the installer window (if they are black, they are OK and clicking cancel should still lead to normal operation).

    hi
this doesn't seem to be the case either...
i deleted the application support folder once more, downloaded the binaries again and repaired the permissions...
then opened ffmpegX, entered everything, clicked install, the wheel turns, dialog disappears and everything seems to be normal. but when i quit ffmpegX and open it again the install window pops up and mencoder and mplayer are in red once more...
well, how i said, i can press cancel and everything works, so it's nothing very serious. just that you know
    thanks anyway

  11. Did you check in Finder whether their size is 15869784 for mplayer and 16655780 for mencoder?

    yes, that's correct...

  13. Then operation will be correct. The installer could pop-up just because of a permission issue, as all it does check is the size of the 3 binaries.
