Hi Friends
I have AVIDEMUX but Im aware that the software is no longer developed or supported.
I also feel it is a bit slow in conversions
Which is the best opensource video editing tool I can use?
Cheers
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Avidemux is still very much alive. Version 2.5 for MPEG2 and other interlaced creation, 2.6 and 2.7+ for progressive. That is my understanding, though I may be corrected to some degree.
Do you want free software? Cheap? What is your goal or goals? You ask for "the best" but that will vary from person to person, and even from project to project. -

Your open source requiremnets limits the choices to just a few ...

No they are not, MeGui is an encoder, mkvtoolnix & MP4Box are muxers

are you looking for an editor or an encoder? avidemux is mostly just an encoder. editors are software like vegas or premiere pro. for easy re-encoding/re-sizing the free vidcoder is a nice option.
