  1. hi,
i was wondering how i could add "masking" on faces on my own movies.
for instance, i go to the beach and a wave take off my swimsuit...
I always wondered how tv shows like gag-videos and stuff...could encode a moving object.

I hope this is the right place for posting this question...

    thx for answering,

If your source is DV, you should check into Virtualdub filters. They would probably do what you want. There is a logo and logoway filters that may do it. You would have to adjust the movement of the filter for the proper 'blur' effect. Check for 'virtualdub filters' on the web.

If you want to blur out certain parts of a moving image, you need to look at software that supports masking and tracking in some form. Many editing programs, such as Vegas or Premiere can do this, however it is a manual process. You would have to track the parts you wish to blur our by hand using keyframes to move you mask around.

Compositing programs such as Combustion, After Effects or Fusion can do some (or all) of the tracking for you, making life easier. Of course, these generally are not cheap programs.

No offence, but if you have to ask the question, the I suspect both will be difficult for you. Both are complex beasts for people not used to editing in higher end software. Both work in different ways. You really need to download the demos and have a play to see which one suits you best.

My preference is Vegas, although for this I would probably use after effects
