I have a fairly competent 8 threaded processor that can encode a DVD to mp4 in a little under 8 minutes using handbrake which pegs all 8 threads at 98-100 percent for the duration. I have also found DVD flick for going in the other direction to burn said MP4's back to DVD. However in spite of the fact that DVD flick is multi threaded and I set it to 8 it doesn't nearly utilize all of the hardware and takes roughly an hour and a half to burn to disk. I have also tried my paid program wonder share and it is even slower. I am more than happy to pay for good software but most things I find seem kind of scammy and would like to hear from someone who has used something better or if I should stick with my current system.

  2. Most MPEG 2 encoders are not well multithreaded. Even with a fast encoder you're sometimes limited by the speed of decoding the source.

DVD Flick is garbage to go from mp4 to DVD.
    Try AVStoDVD

    Good Luck.
