I tried to search for one without any luck.

Can someone please list a few models which can upconvert to 1080i through component? Even though my CRT projection TV does have a DVI input, the reason I would like to use component inputs is because I had them calibrated.

    Thanks.

I believe it's only the Oppo players that can do it.

Also, keep in mind that most upscaling circuitry will only work on copy protection free material... if it's macrovision, etc then it won't upconvert... another reason to clear all copy protection from the discs you legally own.. burn 'em to dual layer, and then, and only then, can you get the best results for Hollywood movies... ug. I'm just going to leave my upscaling up to my TV - as somebody has to upscale to the native TV res at some point...

    Thanks.

It looks like I won't have to get a new player after all. I though my player had died because it displayed "incorrect disc" and would not play it or eject it. I pushed the "open" button again yesterday and it opened up! The problem was that someone put two DVDs inside, one on top of another!

My TV can upscale to 1080i, and I have compared the 540p to the 1080i and did not see even the slightest difference. Both resolutions look exactly the same to me, so I just left it at 540p.

The Oppos don't do it if copy protected, and there aren't many that will, since they're not supposed to be able to do that. Here's a few:

    Helios H4000:

Samsung 841 (with an older or hacked firmware, if I remember correctly (no link)).

Zenith 318 (also with an older firmware):

Thanks a lot for the links.

The Helios looks quite decent and at only $160. It does 1080p as well. If I get one I'll definitely post a comparison of its 1080i output vs. my current player's 480p output.

I actually just contacted Sony today to see if my DVP-NS75H does output 1080i through it's Component and it does.

This is their reply to my Q:

I am glad to inform you that this unit will output the 1080i signals from the Component Video Out

Price is $99 at Circuit City online as we speak
