Vlc can play an image sequence, but its rate is set globally in preferences (default is 10 secs per image). Afaik, it cannot play audio in sync with it.

Note that any decent NLE can do this, and you can add in audio. But it requires a few steps, certainly more than a one-size-fits-all script.

And in reference to your previous thread/question, ffmpeg can directly play an image sequence (through ffplay) and it can convert an image sequence to video. Both have the option to set the framerate, and using the zoompan filter option, it is also possible to apply dissolve transitions between the images. However, ffmpeg doesn't appear to support directly playing an image sequence with accompanying sync audio, but it CAN convert to video file while adding audio. The downside there is the time to convert and the need for the additional space taken up by the new, resulting video file. Note: you will have to be extra careful about the start times and the length of the audio file as well as the specification of the sequence framerate in order to properly achieve A-V sync.
