My new Benq dvd-rw duel layer wont read any recordable media I put into it. It says "no disk"

I checked the drivers and for some reason it is regesteresting as a dvd-rw but when I go to update the driver, the only drivers I see is for CD-ROM's.

I am beginning to think it installed a CD-ROM drive for some reason.

I can't access the entire driver list to force install a burning driver.

    Help

    It sounds like a dud.

If you just bought it, I would exchange it for another one.

Edit - There might be a firmware upgrade for the burner.

You could try that before you took it back.

I would also try different media.

    It could be bad discs.

    I upgraded the firmware, nothing

    I tried other disks, nothing,

    I even tried a stamped cd-rom, nothing.
