new Video Studio patch

Has anyone tried the new Ulead Video Studio 6.02 patch? This in part affects MPEG encoding. A new slider on the MPEG form enables selection between speed and quality. This only seems to be accessible under the "custom" specification and not the standard VCD or SVCD output buttons. In some quick tests I've found (X)VCD and (X)SVCD outputs to be vastly improved.

I like this patch (released 9/26/2002, by the way)!

After applying this 6.02 patch, to improve the default quality setting for pre-existing templates, go into the Templates manager (click that "wrench & hammer" icon under the main display, select Templates manager, then edit the templates by highlighting them and clicking edit), and edit the VCD, SVCD, and DVD templates; the slider shows up under the "compression" tab just like it does in the XVCD options. Edit each template by selecting the "compression" tab and moving the "quality" slider all the way to 50.

It extends the rendering time a small amount, but the quality goes up noticeably.

This might go without saying, but it also might not:

In addition to editing the templates in the Template manager, also open and edit the templates in the Make Movie Template manager (it's on the same dropdown menu), and set the quality to 50 at each (VCD, SVCD, DVD, DV, etc) template's compression tab just like you did with the project template manager. This way you'll avoid accidentally rendering a vid file without having the quality set as high as possible.
