  1. I noticed today the Google search results page goes into "dumb mode" when Pale Moon 25.5 has Firefox compatibility mode disabled.

Whereas with it enabled, the page displays as it would in Firefox:

Not that it matters too much as there's no functionality lost, but I'm curious..... have other Pale Moon users noticed this sort of thing much when surfing other sites?

  2. I've just checked it (Pale Moon 25.6.0 Win7 x64) and there's a difference in the page display. Moonchild added the compatibility mode, 'cos going "bare" Pale Moon gave its user some problems. Website developers who use browser recognition are too lazy to distinguish Pale Moon as a browser on its own especially after splitting up with Firefox (different GUID and version numbers). Pale Moon looks to them like "too old" Firefox.

Bare Pale Moon user string for my OS: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:25.6) Gecko/20150723 PaleMoon/25.6.0

    Pale Moon in the compatibility mode: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:25.6) Gecko/20150723 Firefox/31.9 PaleMoon/25.6.0

  3. Currently mine looks like this, compatibility mode enabled:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:25.5) Gecko/20150714 Firefox/31.9 PaleMoon/25.5.0.1

I'll probably try to support Pale Moon and leave it disabled until I find a site where it's a problem. At least it's easy to enable/disable it.

I was running version 24.7 (I think) on another PC and when I ran the update check it wanted to update to 25.6.0, Atom/XP version. Instead I ran the 25.5.0 installer and upgraded it that way, then auto update updated that to 25.5.0.1 and disabled the update check. I assume that's the final PM4XP version and when I was running 24.7 it was just a standard version so it bypassed the PM4XP updates..... or something......

Any experience with add-on compatibility and 25.6.0 vs 25.5.0? I've only just finished getting everything just the way I like it again and don't want to update to 25.6.0 if it's going to cause add-on problems. I guess I can just backup the profile folder and see what happens. I probably should switch to a version that'll continue getting updates if I can.

Or can PM4XP and the Pale Moon Atom/XP version both be installed at the same time as you can install Pale Moon and Firefox etc? I'm thinking it's probably not that simple.

  4. I can't tell you anything really about PM4XP and Atom/XP versions or if the other one can "naturally" and without problems replace the first one, cos my system is Win7. The answer must be somewhere at the Pale Moon forum.

About addons (and I have quite a few of them - good to have a laptop with a bit of power ):
    - most of them work OK
    - a few I use in lower/older versions
    - Ghostery indicates that it's not compatible, but works fine
    I use Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks: https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/

A few days ago Moonchild 'hard blacklisted' Adblock Plus, because of possible problems, but after users request gave an option to add it:
