Tried guitar (electric and acoustic) for years but can't play a lick. Tried speaking various languages for 30 years and have ended up frustrated and stuck with English. Some people are born that cannot do some things. Computers and most electronic equipment I can figure out quite readily. You just have to stick with what you know I guess...

  9. Played trumpet in junior high. Since I wasn't very good, and big enough to handle it, it was strongly suggested I switch to tuba in high school. For marching band, sousaphone, the one that rests on your shoulder. They play the same, but a tuba is tough to march with.

Took up guitar after I turned 40, in part because my son decided to do it for a couple of years (he had been doing piano, which he has since gone back to), and because I never learned an instrument when I was younger. Not sure Pink Floyd would appreciate what I do to their music, but I have fun.

Trombone through high school and guitar since I was 11. In the 70's played the bar circuit, and now a few of us old guys get together and jam at parties on occasion.

Funny you should bring this up. I just bought a usb-midi cable for my rockband 3 keyboard and bought the emedia piano for dummies software. I've already started playing some simple songs. I just bought the software saturday!

Granted I had a bit of head start since a few years ago i bought a cheapo acoustic guitar off ebay and tried teaching myself for awhile. I got to where I could play one or two simple folk type songs with single notes but that was all I did. So I had some basic music knowledge before I tried the piano.

Plus I was already doing the rockband pro keys before I got the software (hard mode) so I was doing some relatively complex fingering on the keyboard already.

I'm gonna try to stick to the piano now. Unfortunately the rockband keyboard is only 25 keys so its a little limiting. However I can borrow my moms old electronic keyboard (yamaha I think). Its a larger 40 key keyboard or there abouts. Its not midi but it has a bunch of built in instruments and can play music without a computer with its own speaker.

Fyi I voted other since I can't seriously say I can play either the guitar or piano - just flirting with it now.

  19. Can play? or have played?
I played Cello from 4th grade to 9th grade, but gave it up in 10th because I didn't like the teacher. I played guitar from that point until I was too busy with life, work, and family to practice. I realized one day that I hadn't played my guitar in over 10 years and decided to give it to my son who was just getting his singer/songwriter career moving. He plays it better than I ever did.
