    which one is better, for general pc use, this would be converting from blu-ray. a lot of people seem to like the mkv's but you can get better sound out of the m2ts, and they are hugely faster to create. making one mkv file takes FORever, and my chip is pretty fast (c2d e8400 @4.0G), the advantage i guess being that you could make a smaller file, but i'm not so concerned with that, i'd rather have high quality vid.

    so, are there advantages one way, or the other, or does it matter?

    The quality depends on the video codec and if you reconvert and NOT the video container. You can keep same video quality in mkv as in the original m2ts.
