Try burning with imgburn,if that still fails then it's time to replace your burner.

I think I have the same drive as you. I normally have to clean it out once a year or every other year. Recently did it with compressed air (sprayed randomly inside) and then had it verify a few discs at full speed to try and use air to clean the lens. Worked fine after that.

I also burn everything at 4x, as any higher I get more bad discs.

    JUST TRIED WITH IMGBURN

It seemed to be ok, up to the verify point ,but failed again - the BD-R disc appears to be blank in windows explorer

try uninstalling your LG blu ray writer, restart your computer

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Verbatim BD-R HTL media, as far as I know. I can't recall ever having one of them fail verification.

Verbatim BD-R LTH media has more problems. Some early Blu-ray burners could not ever successfully burn Verbatim BD-R LTH media, although your burner is not old enough to be one of them.

I have no idea what any of the HTL or LTH part means.

As i said the cheap discs work absolutely fine - the much praised Verbatim aren't

It isn't unusual for a dirty or failing drive to work better with one brand or type of a particular media than another. Different brands and types can use different write strategies.

Verbatim actually makes 3 different types of BD-R media, HTL, LTH, and M-DISC, which I forgot to mention. Some Blu-ray drives don't work with M-DISC media, but yours has M-DISC support. However, M-DISC is supposed to require more power when burning and is rumored to wear out the laser more quickly.

Verbatim LTH BD-R discs have "LTH" somewhere on the package label. They were created as a less expensive option and use an organic dye for the recordable layer. M-DISC media has "M-DISC" somewhere on the package and uses a proprietary inorganic material for its recording layer. "HTL" denotes the regular Verbatim BD-R ("HTL" is not found on the label) and uses a metallic alloy for its recordable layer.

CMC also owns and manufactures Taiyo-Yuden discs (which hasn't existed as a separate entity since 2015) discs. https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/389210-CMC-manufacturing-Taiyo-Yuden-DVDs

The key with both Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden is that CMC (for now) uses the original formulas and adheres to the manufacturing and QC specifications.

Yep. Don't know about Blu-Ray discs, but even Verbatim pre-buyout was playing games with their DVD packaging https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/391272-Beware-of-new-Verbatim-non-AZO-packaging
