Bought a new Asrock Deskmini A300w. Have everything installed. Problem is, my system absolutely WILL NOT recognize my Western Digital Blue 250GB M.2 SSD in either slot! Thought it was defective. Returned for a new SSD of the exact same brand & model.... same thing! Neither Windows 10 set-up, nor does the Bios recognize it either. Again, tried both M.2 slots.

    Whats going on?

    Any help would be appreciated.

did you try disabling the CSM module ?? - https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/motherboard-wont-recognize-m-2-ssd.3416814/

if that doesn't work, check and see if there's a M.2 setting mode in the BIOS

There are M.2 settings in the Bios that i've switched from "Auto" to "Enabled". It did nothing. And i don't know what CSM is. How would that effect my problem?

The WDS250G2B0B drive is a SATA III M.2 2280 drive. All the M.2 drives on your PC's motherboard's supported list are NVMe drives. I found a review that stated the SATA III type NGFF drives are not supported by your PC's motherboard and only the NVMe drives are supported for some reason. https://smallformfactor.net/reviews/asrocks-deskmini-a300-finally/

I didn't realize there are different M.2 SSD standards. Evidently my motherboard takes NVMe PCIe Gen3x4, and the SSD i've both trying is of the older SSD type. The connects are also "keyed/shaped" differently. The thing is though, the drive i've been attempting seems to fit into the slot Perfectly with no issue. So i didn't realize anything was up.

Just ordered a 256GB NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 SSD. Just waiting for it to arrive now.

Unfortunately, although there are motherboards with M.2 slots that support installing either SATA-bus or PCI Express-bus drives on the same slot, not all motherboards offer that much flexibility. Some have M.2 slots that only support one of those two types. ...and if it is a PCI Express-bus compatible M.2 slot, it might support only NVME drives or only PCIe x4 drives or only PCIe x2 drives.

Yup. That indeed looks to be the case with my system. Lesson learned. Ordered another M.2 SSD That appears to be the proper hardware:

    NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD

PROBLEM SOLVED!! Sorry to double-post guys but, i got my New SSD in and.... IT WORKS!!!!! Posting this on my new system now. So in a nutshell, even though the older Sata M.2 drive fit in the slot Perfectly, only the new NVMe Gen3x4 SSD type would work in my system. Evidently some systems only see the newer type despite the slot being physically compatable with the older type.

As for my new system for those wondering about my new PC build:
    • ASRock Deskmini A300w Case+Motherboard (plus Integrated Audio, and Wi-Fi M.2 card & antennas included)
    • AMD Ryzen 5 3400g w/Integrated Radeon Vega 11 Graphics
    • Noctua NH-L9a-AM4: A fancy heatsink fan for my processor.
    • 16GB DDR4 260-Pin Laptop ram, 2666mhz speed, and dual-channel (2x8GB sticks, a MUST for integrated Graphics!)
    • Silicon Power 256GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD
