I've been using VD2 with the Magwell HDMI Pro 4K+ capture card successfully for some time now. Recently there was a Windows update (I'm using Windows 10 64 bit) that broke my setup in that I no longer can see or capture video using VD2 AVI capture.

I can if I use the Windows WDM VFW driver, but this driver is modifying the captured video preventing me from capturing exactly what I'm playing. In the past, when I capture the source I can get a 100 dB PSNR measure, which tells me the captured video matches the source. Now I can't get this and I can only think that the difference in the driver has something to do with this.

I updated the Magewell driver to the latest version 1.0.3.4030, nVidia Quadro K2000 driver version 26.21.14.3064, Virtualdub 2 build 43602.

I've tried reverting back to earlier versions of the nVidia Quadro driver, but I couldn't get Vd2 AVI capture to work.

One of the recent version updates to Win10 changed device privileges, due to privacy concerns. Check you Privacy settings to make sure that device is still set to "Allowed" (ON) - in general and for that app specifically. It could be the update reset it to "Not Allowed" (OFF). If that's the case, it has nothing to do with your driver.

    - this is bad but I cannot narrow it down to any solution.

You said this happened after windows update, what about uninstalling the update?

When I change Video->Overlay to Video->Preview then back to Video->Overlay, the video preview displayed and I was able to capture video.
