    I'm currently capturing from my motorola cable box with a component cable (using hauppauge colossus). I would like to switch to hdmi instead, but I don't get any audio/video with this. I'm assuming this is due to hdcp? Is there any difference in quality between the various hdmi splitters that strip out hdcp? What's the best one to get?

    Surely a legal splitter will output the exact same signal as the incoming one ? i.e with hdcp intact

    I have read some posts on here of units that do appear to strip out hdcp. Maybe they have taken genuine splitters and modified them somewhat.
