  1. I have read about this in many posts and understand that having open GOPs (Group of Pictures) is not a serious setback except for the fact that it will cause mildly inaccurate chapter beginnings and that this message can also be turned off in preferences.

But may i know whether these open GOPs can be made closed for whatever little advantage of precision that it brings to the DVD authoring process? What programs /software can do this (preferably one that has smart rendering else reprocessing just for closing GOPs might cause deterioration?

Many members of video related forums explain open GOPs and its consequences but is thee a solution for closing them? and if so, what?

When have GOPs actually to be closed - is it after editing and saving as DVD compliant mpeg when sing a linear video editor?

  2. Hi-

You reencode the whole thing, setting up your MPEG-2 encoder with closed GOPs. It's completely unnecessary, though, except under some very limited circumstances (editing after the encode, sometimes joining after the encode, multi-angle encodes, etc.), and results in slightly lower quality.
