Is it possible to create a fixed width black box in Aegisub, the object ia to completely cover burnt Asian subtitles substituting English. I have created an .ass file however the opaque box length is dynamic based on the number of characters per line. What I need is a black fixed width rectangle. If I can achieve it in the .ass subtitle I won't have to remux the video burning the box into the video image.

Easy enough to create a rectangle but then how the hell do you get it into the main subtitle window so the subtitles appear within it?

  6. Yeah, read about layers.

Are the English subtitles timed exactly like the Asian ones? There is a way to automate it, then. I wrote a small guide for it in another thread once. (Just need some small editing to your preferred width and not make it opaque.)

Thanks - that will keep me busy. Yes the timing is OK. So far I have widened the fonts a tad and increased the spacing. Looking better and I made the font colour yellow
