I gave it updates. I still have a way to go. If anything needs to be added, beyond what is already mentioned, let me know.

If you have any hack files, send them to me. PM me about it.

    Thanks again.

    lordsmurf,
I know this has been asked before, but I haven`t found a definitive answer for it.
I bought a LVW-5005 about a month ago (Great unit so far) with the idea of backing up my
collection of VHS tapes, off my older model JVC HR-S3800U S/VHS deck.
The LVW-5005 is a June manufacture model.(if that makes a diff)
I`ve tried the LVW-5005 3hour/macro hack as explained at http://www.digitalFAQ.com/reviews/liteon.htm
for region 1, No-Go...all I get is "File".
(actually I`ve tried about a half dozen times)
I did get it region free using the 2 9 6 0 keypad method...but that`s not what I got it for.
I `m no stranger to updating hacked firmware, as I`ve done it to a few
of my stand-alone DVD players and PC DVD burners, and I followed the parameters in Nero for this hack to a tee.
Is it not possible to further hack later manufacture LVW-5005 models?
I`ve read others have had difficulties upgrading using the hack,
    with June and July Manufactured.
Did LiteOn change something with these models?
I`d Much rather use the hack, than go another $200-$300 for a TBC,
    for obvious reasons $$$$$$$!!!!..
    (Anyones input would be appreciated)

Thanks for the quick reply lordsmurf...Yes, I check in on digitalFAQ and the LiteOn forums
daily for any updates...no joy so far.
My only guess, as I mentioned, is maybe the later manufactured units (June,July, ect.) were made with a "twist" in the firmware, that resists this type of hack...Damn!...

Not true. A properly hacked machine will not show MV copy prevention. This was tested on Disney, Lucas and several other tapes.

  12. I recently purchased a Gateway AR-230

I cannot get the Lite-on MV hack to work. I have tried every way possible.

What I now think I will do is purchase a Lite-On 5001. I'll sell the Gateway or return it.

Has anyone recently hacked a 5001?

I have concerns Lite-on has done something to the FW disallowing a MV elimination hack.

    Thanks

  13. Can someone give me advice on how to set this system up? I have a s-video out tv, with a dish pvr and vcr. The sat signal comes into the dishnet prv which has the output to the vcr input and the vcr output to the tv. I had my old dvd player then hooked up via s video. I changed out the dvd recorder with the player, using s video and I can't get anything to show up. I can't get the setup menu to show up on any of the tv's inputs (in1, 2, 3, svhs,) nada.

I can't get any dvd to play in the recorder, not commerical ones. I can barely get the remote to do more than turn the unit on or off. Pressing set up doesn't do anything, that I can see.

Does anyone have an idea how this should be set up? I've poured over the manuals as well as checked online, and nothing I do seems to matter. I don't want to go back to composite rca jacks, but that's looking like an option since nothing else is working.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Any advice is appreciated.

  14. This should probably be moved to a new topic but here's how to hook up your dvd recorder. The reason you can't see anything is that its not set to svideo out as the intial setting out of the box. I think the composite out is turned on. Hook that up straight to the tv and change the video out in the menu to svideo. Turn it off and hook the svideo and audio out cables to your tv's inputs. Read your manual and you'll see that this is one of the first things talked about in it. Use svideo and audio out of your dishpvr to the inputs on the back of your dvdr. Then use the composite video and audio outs of the dish into your vcr (you don't have to, but if you ever wanted to tape something off for someone who doesn't have dvd player). The vcr composite video and audio outs will go to the front jacks on the Liteon dvdr. This assumes you don't have an svhs vcr.

This hook up allows you to record tapes and dish pvr to the dvdr. It requires you to leave your tv on the svideo input and turn on your dvdr at all times to switch between dish and vcr watching (if you still have tapes).

This is by no means the only way to hook this all up. For instance, you didn't say if you have a surround sound amplifer that could do the audio and video switching, not to mention DD 5.1 sound. Personally, I still watch dvds on my older Sony player and use my Gateway just for recording from my dish pvr. The pq is just better.

    Hi vico1,

Maybe u can try a VCR player that have built-in TBC.
As for my LVW-5005, I left it in my storeroom...as my main prupose of purchasing this recorder is to convert all my old vhs tapes into VCDs.....but the macrovision prevents me frm. doing so....

    Updated again...
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/liteon.htm

Still no word on new firmwares, but I still suggest those people try to hex edit the new ones, or continue to try the old ones. I've gotten several success stories of new firmwares being downgraded to old officials, and then hacked afterwards.

  21. Has anyone had success in getting a newly purchased(june/july manufacture date) lite-on 5005 successfully hacked so that MV is disabled?

Before I buy one, I want to make sure.

    Thanks

    lordsmurf,
Do any of the success stories involve the region1 newer manufactured 5005 units.
I`d like to hear their method.

On using the manual hack method, I tried the "LNFA1075.E00" firmware (latest from liteon) in UltraEdit, but a lot of the number strings mentioned at digitalfaq for this model,
    (region1 5005) aren`t in it... ...

Heck...I`d pee on a sparkplug about now, to get this thing fixed up!...

I recently got a 5005 Jan 04 manufacture which would not take the modified 2063.d00 fw, just came up with data disk etc. No firmare upgrade available from liteon until last week so downloaded the LNFB2091.ESU file only to find the strings to do the manual hack were not in it. Last resort, removed 29LV160 48pin TSOP flash chip and read the contents (this is a region 2 uk model). Luckily found the two strings to a) remove macro b) add 3 hour option. Modified the dump accordingly and refitted. Bingo, no macro and 3hr.

What date was your 5005 manufactured? I have had a few problems with the July 2004 manufacturing date. I am currently on my 4th, YES 4TH, 5005 recorder. The first and third ones failed to read what they had written after about 2 weeks. They would take the disk in after recording and they would flash loading. The tray would click twice, pause and then click twice again. After 3 minutes, it would come up with 'invalid disk' Replacement was required.

The second of the four started fine, then 24 minutes later it came up with a write error, but continued to burn. When I inspected the disk, it had burnt 24 minutes, then a gap of about 5 minutes, then another 24 minutes. Not bad considering it was a two hour recording!!
It formatted another disk and that was it. No more use. It had failed again! Another replacement.

When the third one failed, we were advised by the store that the July 2004 batch was faulty, and they are replacing them with a new batch here in Australia. The new one is made in October and has the additional info on the top next to the serial number on the top of the box - "HI-POT OK". Obviously, it was a faulty part in the batch, as about 500 units were recalled acording to the supplier.

Hope this helps anyone out there.

    John.
