    Use DeShaker first.
Brief video tutorial: http://filmmakeriq.com/2010/08/virtualdub-deshaker-image-stabilizer-tutorial/. There are other videos on YouTube.
The official in-depth use and settings guide, by DeShaker's designer: http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm.

  3. I wrote a long tutorial over a decade ago. The original link is gone, but someone copied it, and this captures most of what I wrote:

The forum software is broken at the moment so I cannot make that a clickable link. Sorry about that.

Because we have no sample and have no idea what your video looks like, no one can offer much detail. But in general the usual restoration workflow for unstable, jerky video is:
    1. Stabilize
    2. Denoise and other image cleanup
    3. Levels, contrast, color
