Guys I hope you can help me I'm trying to edit the Hosts file as an administrator and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong https://forum.redfox.bz/threads/key-server-ips-instructions.68345/
I'm Running Windows 10 and UAC is disabled. I'm trying to follow "How to execute RUN as administrator" but I apparently don't understand how to do it.
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...administrator-from-the-windows-vista-run-box/
1. I've tried typing in "cmd" into the run box but that just opened up a prompt and entering "%systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" does nothing.
2. I've tried typing in "%systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts"" into Windows 10 search bar and it brings up the file and asks how I want open it... I chose Notepad. I then edit the Hosts file and close to save it but it says I don't have administrator rights.
3. I clicked on "Run' and typed in "%systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" and it goes directly to chose the program to open it but again it won't save it because I don't have administrator rights.
I've never attempted to edit the Hosts file before so I admit I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Can someone help?

Just copy the file to your desktop...edit and save on desktop there no problem...then copy back and overwrite. Windows will ask on the return copy that you need administrator rights to copy and overwrite..you say ok. That is it..and soooo much easier.

Type cmd in the search bar, right click on CMD.EXE, select Run As Administrator.

Try a program called HostXpert. I have tried it on all versions of Windows and works just fine. Just Google it and then download it. O, and it is free. Get it here at http://www.snapfiles.com, seems to be the best site.

If it feels good, do it. -
Thanks everyone! Ron's suggestion worked but for future reference glad to know there are many other ways to approach this!

You can also use "runas", in conjunction with a CLI batch/script/app and save that as a shortcut so that the shortcut (and only those you designate) always runs at elevated privileges.

If you're trying to connect to the OPD server, then install AnyDVD 7.6.9.1 instead and remove any entries you've added to connect to the OPD server.
