  1. I have been able to burn in a subtitle, using Handbrake, which is.. for me.. quite an accomplishment already
However, the subtitles also show additional info between 'square brackets'
e.g. [people talking] [music in the background]
Definitely useful for those having real hearing issues, but not necessary for other who only need the subtitles.

If at all possible, can this be avoided?

If not, well, so be it.

Attached files of the steps I took.
    Am not an expert.

Again, if it is not possible or too complicated, forget it.
I was already happy being able to burn in the subtitles: my media player (in the living room) crashed each time when I selected the respective subtitle.

    Many thanks!

  2. I assume your subtitle is available as an srt file.
If not, extract it from your mkv file with mkvcleaver.
Open the srt in subtitle edit and delete all lines you don't want. Then save with a new name.
Then burn this new subtitle file into your movie with Handbrake.

  3. Really, really sorry for the delay... There were some urgent things and frankly speaking, I had to clear some backlog and forgot about this.

As for the above, regretfully there was/is no .srt file, BUT I found one, which was 100% correct (text/sync wise) and used that.
So, basically the matter was solved then.
This was also the reason that I forgot about this thread. Again, sorry.

Should this come up again, I'll try this mkvcleaver (seems this file is not updated anymore, maybe I should try with gMKVExtractGUI.exe (?)

  4. Also should it come up again: Use the .mkv filie directly in Subtitle Edit - no need for MKVCleaver/gMKVExtractGUI. Then in Subtitle Edit use Tools -> Remove Text for Hearing Impaired ...

  5. Thanks a lot!!

I believe I did load the file into Subtitle Edit. There were no separate .srt files. At the beginning of the movie one could select a language, but when selecting my native language, the player (in the living room) crashed, each time.
I loaded the .mkv into subtitle edit, but there were no subtitles displayed on the left. Assume Subtitle Edit expects you to load the .srt file.
Probably Handbrake has no option to burn in subtitle using hearing impaired (?) but I am not sure.
