  1. Hey guys, have a problem to ask you about. Okay, I have a p4 1.4ghz, 384 mb ram, win98se, and an all in wonder 128 pro running mmc 7.1. Now, when I do mpeg1 encoding the video sometimes looks jerky, you know, not smooth. The weird thing is that I do not drop frames when this occurs, and have no ideo of how to make it stop! Does anyone know what i am talking about?

  2. If you are talking about the "jerkyness" when the camera pans...

I believe that this is caused by MPEG1 being a single field, non-interlaced video source. Instead of getting two pictures per frame, you are only getting one and this causes the jerky look of the video -- even with all frames accounted for.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you are dealing with a limitation of the MPEG1 file format rather than your PC.

  3. "Jerkyness" may also be caused by capturing the fields of the frame in the wrong order. But I can't remember if there is any menu in MMC 7.1 to select which field is encoded first.
