Could be the file itself. I'd like to take a look at it. Here's a way to get a small clip.
(if you have a preferred method of cutting off a clip, use that instead)

Open the file in Mkvmerge (mmg.exe). This can be found in the avstodvd folders here:
    \AVStopDVD_284_alpha1\MKVtoolNix

Open your video mkv file. Make sure the output file name location is pointed to your Desktop

    On the global tab
    select enable splitting
    after this size 75M
max number of file = 2

Hit "start muxing" and when it's done send me the small clip. Upload it it to a file hosting site and send me the link in a PM

  3. Hi all,

I've demuxed several ts files using tsmuxergui into separate mpeg2 and ac3 streams.

Will AVStoDVD allow me to combine these streams so I can create a compliant dvd structure to burn onto a disk with imgburn ?

    Cheers

The most obvious thing is that the source is not PAL it is 24 fps (PAL is 25) - typical Blu ray .

A quick glance at the script shows AVStoDVD is using DGPulldown to do the 24 > 25 conversion, it may be this that
is causing a perceivable choppiness . I wouldn't do this, I'd be tempted to do 24 > 25 fps speed up.

    Perhaps MrC has a suggestion
    Quote Quote
  10. Yes, I agree with Dave to try the PAL SpeedUp option to convert that NTSC-film based mkv (24 fps) to PAL DVD (25 fps).

See Preferences > AviSynth > Use PAL SpeedUp ...

Then add the source mkv and start the project.

  11. Just started using the program, & am super impressed by what a great job it does! I haven't figured out what the procedure is for longer events. I want to maintain the best quality, so I would prefer to turn the events over 2hr 10 minutes into multiple DVD-5 sets. Is there a way to do this with AVStoDVD (DVD-9 doesn't really help me, & I have plenty of stuff that's a 5-6hr .mp4s)? If not, what program should I use first to give me the best results when finishing the DVD with AVStoDVD? Thanks for your help!

There is nothing in A2D (at the moment) to automatically do what you're asking.
Best bet is to split the source manually and process them separately in A2D

you need an editor that does smart rendering, recodes only the frames where you split it
then you manually split and save sections at the time point, you pick
its a frame for frame copy/split, with only a few frames on each side of the break recoded

use your new split files to create your DVDs

something like VideoRedo will do this

but if you want to mark it and do an auto save of each split section, you will need some other similar software with that extra function
    Quote Quote
  14. I'm not worried about auto saving the split decisions. If there's a good open source program that will recode only the frames I split so I can save a 4hr mp4 as 2 files to make the 2 DVD-5's out of that would be wonderful. VideoRedo looks great, but to just use it to make the split, it seems like I would just buy something like TMPGEnc Authoring Works that can automatically split, but I like the quality of my DVDs that I made on AVStoDVD better than the ones my friend made on TMPGEnc.

  15. Hello, I am trying to create a dvd starting from a dozen or so .mp4 files from my video camera but I can't make it.
I used avidemux to adjust light and cut away blurred parts etc, then I joined them together in 4 different .AVI files, that should become the 4 chapters of the dvd. On VLC they play fine and display the right duration, and all together they weigh little more than 1 GB.
I must add that they're of the 5:4 type, but AVStoDVD recognizes that and prompts me to choose between 4:3 or 16:9.
As soon as I add the first title (300 mb) to AVStoDVD, though, I see that it exceeds the maximum space (I tried with many other softwares and they all say that, from DeVeDe to DVD styler) for a dvd. And the duration of the videos is completely messed up, since it pretends to be over 22 hours, while it is way under 30 minutes!! Only one is displayd as less than an hour after I added it with the "+" icon.
Still when I say "start" it seems to work, until it stops at the third title with a buffer error. It happened in the night, since it was way over 4 hours of processing when I went to bed...
At least AVStoDVD manages to start processing the files, other softwares say that there isn't enough space on my HD to create the dvd (while I have over 200 free GB!) or refuse to start since the result won't fit in any dvd.
What could be the problem? If it's the files I created, shouldn't they play strange on VLC too? Could it be the change from 5:4 to 4:3 that "explodes" them so much? What could I do? Re-make them with avidemux? Use some setting of AVStoDVD?
Thanks for any advice and apologies for my imperfect English, it's not my language.

My best guess, is run a test using the uncut original files
There is a good possibility you have changed something using aviDemux
    If there original work
You can look over your cutting procedure
Could be bit rate, or any number of framing issues, like going then together
Load each cut as a separate file to avstodvd, do not join them with aviDemux
There are others here with more experience on this

In the top bar of avstodvd you can run a frame serving check
Doing this for all titles will save a lot of wasted run time
    Quote Quote
  17. With the original files it worked perfectly.
Then I must have done something strange with avidemux, but I am no expert and I only cut some seconds here and there, added light (they're pretty dark videos) and saved (in .avi).
Where could my mistake be? I need to rework on the original files, if only to make them clearer...

  18. @sichenia

please post the failed project .log file, it contains useful info to understand what went wrong with your source AVI files.

  20. It could be just a directshow codecs issue. Take a look at Help/FAQ/General/Q1.5

If you have troubles in changing the default codecs from Microsoft to LAV Filters, then go to Help/FAQ/GUI/Q2.7

Restart your project. If you still have errors messages, come back here with the log file. Buona fortuna con la zia!

    Bye

There is something wrong with this file

    TITLE 1 SOURCE FILES
    Video: D:\Casa zia\Giacobazzi\Esterno.avi
    Info: AVC - 6207 kbps - 720x576 - DAR 4:3 - 25 fps - Progressive - 6:00:52 hours - 11771 frames

    [MediaInfoLib - v0.7.77]

The mediainfo says it is over 6 hours, but 11771 frames @ 25 fps is less that 8 minutes

Some of the other input files have similar issues. Could it be a mediainfo problem?

  23. Definitively the source AVI files are problematic: abnormal video and audio durations, variable frame rate, AVC/AAC in AVI container. At least we have understood that it's not a decoding issue.

I would go back to the editing step.

    1. Load title 1 into Avidemux, do use a recent stable 64bit release
    2. Execute your cuts and brightness/colors adjustments
    3. Re-encode video with a lossless codec (e.g. HuffYUV). If the original video stream from the mp4 file is VFR (variable frame rate), apply Resample FPS filter (25 fps) to convert to CFR (constant frame rate)
    4. Re-encode audio with a lossless codec (e.g. PCM).
    5. Save as AVI
    6. Load the new AVI into AVStoDVD and check if audio and video timings are consistent
    7. Run the project

If the resulting AVI from step 5 is too huge for your HD, then use lossy codecs (e.g. x264 and AAC) with high bitrates (e.g. 5000 for video, 384 for audio). Save as MKV.

Come back here with the log files if you still have issues.

AVStoDVD has also some editing capability (Edit Title > AviSynth), but for sure Avidemux is easier to use.

  24. I made it!! It was an editing problem with the files I used. After re-editing following the steps you provided, everything worked like a charm.
    Thanks a lot everyone!!

Help!I'm trying to convert an mp4 video (about 3 hours long) using the latest AVStoDVD 2.8.6 ver. DVD9 folder structure. It starts out normally, with FFmpeg running normally then after a few minutes it slows way way down. It is taking about 2 minutes per frame. It has been running for nearly 48 hours now and still not done. I'm not getting any error messages and it still running but just very very slow.

It is not my computer. I have nothing else running except the operating system. I checked the task manager and the CPU is only running at about 7% utilization and the memory about 40%. I have converted lots of videos in the past and never had this problem.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance....

I woud first try setting these two preferences:
On the Avisynth tab AVS Video source filter - set it to FFmpegsource
also on the same tab, hard frame rate conversion - set it to ChangeFPS
Save the preferences as default and rebuild the project before you restart it

Thank you much davexnet! it worked. although I don't understand why. I'd really like to understand what all of the different parameters do so I know what to choose.

You can see from the your log that LAV filters are installed but not active, defaulting to the usage of the MS filters which can cause this and other problems.
Best to set the source filter to FFmpegsource in this case.

The other item becomes germane when the program has to do a frame rate conversion for DVD compliance.
ChangeFPS does a sort of "intelligent" decimation/ repetition of frames while MotionProtectedFPS blends frames to get the required result.
MotionProtectedFPS has been known to cause problems with CPU usage and extended run times when it is used with the HCenc encoder
(see the video encoder on the video tab of Title/Edit Title)

Generally, MotionProtectedFPS is safe to use when AvstoDVD has been set (or defaulted) to the FFmpeg encoder and it's matter of preference
which one to use. Some are sensitive to the blurring inherent in it's use, while others are more sensitive to possible small stuttering in motion scenes
you may notice when ChangeFPS is used.

  30. Can someone please give me step by step directions on how to delay the audio when it's out of sync? I thought I could correct it by going into LAV Filters audio settings, enable audio delay, & then playing around with the Delay (in ms) settings. When I do that, I can preview the title & have the audio delay actually change, but there's obviously something I'm missing because it still always says 0ms delay in the title that I'm setting up to burn. Once I click start, it just makes the disk image as if I didn't actually do anything and the log files where I attempted to create the disk with different delay settings look essentially identical to me (just different start times & less space on my hard drive). I tried disabling auto A/V sync correction & Auto Adjust Delay, but got nowhere with that either.
