    Does anyone know anything about this?? I have a Philips Divx DVD player and it plays pretty much everything except GMC and Q-pel. My sister has a new model version. If I download the firmware for her dvd player and install it on mine, can I play these files?

    I can tell you 2 reasons why this probably won't work.
    1) If her model is different from yours, using the wrong firmware will fry your model. And you should be aware that sometimes the same model uses different chips over time and the firmware isn't compatible.
    2) I could be wrong, but I think QPel and GMC support has more to do with the decoding chip than the firmware. If I'm right about that, then upgrading firmware will make no difference if your chip doesn't support those options.

    jman is correct. This isn't a firmware issue, it is a hardware issue. Most players can't play files encoded with those options anyway. Your best bet is to fix the files.
