  1. Hello all.
I just bought a new computer with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
Now, I have an external bluray player.
While I can play the Blurays with PowerDVD21 and VLC with correct gamma, when I play them with WinDVD12, the gamma is bright (the black bars appear dark grey).
My screen is an LG 43UD79.

You would ask me I assume, why then i don't play all my blurays with the other players and not WinDVD?
Because WinDVD plays Region A discs and PowerDVD region B. (I don't know how that happened).
To correct the gamma I have to lower it through Nvidia settings from 1.00 to 0.70-0.80, and still is not right.
Could anyone help me please and tell me why WinDVD displays wrong gamma?

By the way, I cannot adjust gamma through Video enhancements of WinDVD. Again, I don't know why...

  2. I did further testing and I see winDVD plays mkvs in the correct gamma. The picture is the same with the other software (MPC, PowerDVD etc.).
It's the Bluray discs, it changes the gamma. I guess it uses some kind of its own renderer? or what?

No one here really cares about windvd so you won't get many responses, best thing to do is contact them about your issue.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  4. I don't know WinDVD but it could be a "PC levels" vs. "TV levels" playback issue rather than gamma. Check the settings options and change to "TV levels" (or similar).

Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, I gather they won't be of much help as they weren't in the other matter about adjusting gamma through their software.

    Thanks.
Yes, that's - I think - the dynamic range in NVIDIA settings. Limited or full.
    No change I'm afraid.

Is there any other software I could use?
I heard about Totalmedia theatre but I can't find a download link nor a link to purchase.

  7. Thanks, I downloaded PlayerFab (I think it's the only out of very few that support Blu-ray menus).
    The image displays correctly.
    The price is steep. $169!
Also, I'm alarmed by the spyware comment in the reviews here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/DVDFab-Media-Player

I always found PowerDVD to be superior over WinDVD.

(Based on testing DVD structures I authored, PowerDVD behaves more like a hardware player than WinDVD does).

    Yeah, me too.
But unfortunately in my system it plays only Region B blu-rays.

You may want to try Leawo Player which also claims to support menus:

I have no experience with it though.

I tried it and it didn't play it.
Oh well, I played one Region A locked Blu-ray I had with VLC.
No problems during the playback, so maybe I will use this instead of purchasing PlayerFab.
