I have some files that are 1918x1080 x265 MKV

My Samsung TV can't play these files, but it can play some 1920x1080 x265 MKV.

With Avidemux 2.7 I can configure the MKV Muxer to 'Force display width' to 1920. This turns these files into 1920x1080 x265 MKVs my TV can play.

However, that's quite time-consuming as it involves re-rendering each file.

Is there any way to quickly, say, add a 2-pixel wide black border to one side of the frame, so I end up with playable 1920x1080 files?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Do you have Windows 7 or newer? Are you able to play videos on the PC and cast them to the TV?
I can do this on my LG TV, your Samsung may be different

This filter can alter HEVC cropping. But are you sure it's the 1920 vs 1918 difference causing the problem?

A bit of Googling reveals there might be an app for that for Samsung TVs, so I'll try it — thanks!

The ultimate objective is to end up with the files on my NAS so the kids can watch them, though.
