    Hi all,

I have never experienced problem with avi files on windows 7.
However, on windows 10, I installed all types of codecs and windows 10 still can't locate the decompressors?
I am a noob, I don't know what decompressors are but when I play an avi file, no matter what player i use, it doesn't show the correct video length and therefore I am unable to fastforward or rewind it (look at image).

When I try to load it on SubRip, it shows the below message.

I have Virtualdub and Vobsub installed but windows 10 are unable to detect them. On my windows 7, whenever I play a video with softsubs, the green Vobsub icon would show up on the right side of the taskbar but on windows 10, nothing shows up, so the softsubs won't play either. (The subs would play if I play the videos on MPC but that's besides the point).

When I try to load the avi file on virtualdub, it gives the below message.

I think the problem is windows is unable to locate all these video filters and codecs.

Someone please help me solve my problem

The last picture says you don't have a DivX codec installed. So, install it. As for your subs not playing. That (and the DivX problem, probably) can be solved by using a player that includes what you need to play the videos and subs. Try Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

What about Vobsub not being detected? And also ffdshow is not running either.
I installed DivX codec earlier, and it did not work.
And what about the 1st and 2nd picture? I am sure that all of these are related. If the core problem is solved, then all will be solved.

    Thanks for the tool.
I ran it and the results all came positive as in, no codecs are disabled.
Look. Am I missing anything here?
I have K-lite codecs installed which have all type of codecs.
Whatever I had on my windows 7, I installed the same but dont know why avi files and vobsub aren't working here.

But I noticed that the installed times show 2019. That's impossible because I bought this new laptop just 2 months ago.

I re-installed it but nothing has changed.
Is there something I need to do with the settings?
But I checked every box there is.

Maybe that's the problem. Uninstall the K-Lite codecs and restart the computer.
Install ffdshow, which includes the required vfw codecs.

    But I have ffdshow already?

Any particular reason you need ffdshow? If not, uninstall haali & ffdshow, and any other codec packs, and install LAV filters

    Use Virtualdub2 instead of Virtualdub

  12. Another idea: Try the Codec Tweek tool.
Maybe you can repair your broken codec installation with it.
