  1. Hi Guys
    I need your help
I am running a gigabyte mobo with 512 ddr2700 ram which seems reasonably stable but when I install a further stick system crashes. I have heard ecc memory mentioned.
? does it have anything to do with that and what would be the threshold for not needing ecc

    All coments appreciated

ECC memory probably wouldn't make any difference. It is slightly slower than conventional memory. (Because of the error checking) Used mostly for server applications. Two things you can try is to run a memory checking program with your present memory and try changing the slots your memory is in. I use (2) 512K sticks in a Gigabyte MB with no problems. Less sticks are inherently more stable. You might check your MB manual for configurations. Some arrangements of memory are not as stable as others. Depending on your board model, 3 sticks could cause problems. Usually, unless you are overclocking, memory modules are stable. Some MB's are more particular than others.

  3. Thanks Redwudz,

    Well thats interesting
A bit more info I have,
Gigabyte mobo GA-7VA suppose to be good board ( three memory slots)
    Generic DDR SDRAM is
    1 x Seitec pc2700 DDR_333mhz
    1 x Elixir pc2700 DDR_333mhz

    Is this memory any good

As I said either installed on there own in first slot seems to be pretty stable, but put the two in together and I cant even install win xp pro without computer shutting down and restarting returning what looks like memory address errors.
Dont know if there are any different configurations I can try. On these boards does it have to be installed in bank 0 and 1 or could it be put in the other bank, and if i were to install a 256 do you have to install largest in bank zero working back

    Thanks
