Hello all you lovely Linux people! I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this Happuauger HVR2200 installed, and I badly need your help.
Just so you know where I'm cmoing from, I wouldn't call myself a Linux Noob, but I'm not far from it. Usually I'll read forums until I find the answer to my problem, and I almost never post on forums for help. But, in this case, I've
read all the forums I can and now find myself going in circles after 2 days of trying..
Please help! I feel that I'm really close, but missing something very simple...
Here's how thiings stand.
I'm trying to install the card on a headless Open Media Vault box, which is running debian 2.6.32 64 bit kernel. I plan to use Tvheadend to get the output to another computer, if it ever works...
Basically, the card appears to be installed properly, and femon reports a good signal, but w_scan does not find any channels. The only slightly non-standard aspect of my build is that the TV card is inserted in the pci-e 16x slot. I
should also say that I'm not sure what signal/s I'm getting into my card, as I live in a block, with some kind of shared arial. But, as femon tells me I'm getting a very strong signal, that doesn't appear to be the problem.
The module was inserted like this:
insmod saa7164 card=4
THE GOOD:
lspci -v produces:

I get a warning at when the module is loaded at boot that I'm using an outdated/obsolete driver, but when I try to compile the latest Video for Linux Drivers the compilation fails with:
build failed at ./build line 452.
I've tried patching the build as per the instructions here:
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers
but I don't really understand the instructions, so my attempt to apply the patch/es doesn't make any difference to the build error.
Lastly this:
$ hg clone http://kernellabs.com/hg/saa7164-stable/
$ make menuconfig
fails with:

sorry to bump, but bump!
I managed to get the card installed properly after upgrading my kernel. At least it *appears* to be installed properly, but now I can't get any results from tuning it.
Strangely, femon shows very good signal strength, whether or not the antenna is attached.
