Video editing program with multi audio tracks?

Can someone make a recommendation for me?

I'm currently using ProShow Gold to make my own movies. It works well and my process is fairly simple. However, I'd like one additional feature.

I'd like a program that is simple and similar to ProShow Gold but I'd like to have the ability to insert and cross fade two audio files.

I've done free trials (or used friends programs) of a number of programs like Vegas but they are far more complicated (and expensive) than I need. I just want to drop several photos and videos into a timeline, then add an audio track but have the ability to cross fade two audio tracks.

I've searched this forum and others have suggested creating the audio track separately and adding it to the video. I can do this but it makes the process more difficult. I like to adjust both the audio, video and photo lengths within one program.

Suggestions?

Vegas Movie Studio is only about $50, I think. If audio is your thing, you should know that Vegas was originally an audio editing program and as a result, not only does it do a great job with audio, but it carries the audio editing paradigm over to video, which makes it much easier to edit that, when you need to.

[edit]I just checked, and the old trick of getting software cheap may still work for Vegas. Since you are clearly not interested in getting all the latest features, the "trick" is to go to eBay and purchase an earlier version. This works because it is still sold in a box, on DVD. if you have a decent computer, i7 or above, 8gb ram minimum, then the free version of Da Vinci Resolve does multi track audio really well

The "go to" for this interference pattern used to be Defreq. I've used it, and it sort of worked. You have to specify the spacing between the interference lines, and the angle. I have no clue about dependencies. I used it a LONG time ago, so I was probably using AVISynth 2.5.8.

You understood exactly what I want to do. I tried it and it works perfectly. I wasn't aware of this feature and it's not quite as intuitive as the rest of ProShow Gold.

I tried Vegas on a friend's computer and found it a little more complicated than I prefer. My friend also told me that it cost about $150. I checked with him again and now realize that he has Vegas Movie Studio Suite. That's why it was more expensive.

I already have Da Vinci Resolve installed. I previously tried it and found it a little awkward to use. I probably didn't spend enough time working on it but when I added a second audio file, it separated the first and second audio file into right and left channels. That's when I got frustrated and gave up. (I probably screwed up!) I may explore this further to see if I like it as I get more experience.

In any case, since the ProShow Gold suggestion works well, I don't need to pursue outer options.
