i'm sure this has been asked a million times on a million forums but there are so many diff answers and i still can't get mine to work ...

basically i want to output my sky+ box into my pc (for recording / burning etc) and out to my monitor for viewing as i don't have (or wish to buy) a tv in that room
i clled sky who said no problem - simply use a normal tv cable (supplied) to connect sky+ to pc
so we ordered the additional box (multiroom) expecting the sky guy to connect it all up
he siad he could only connect it to a tv and we'd have to reconnect to a pc if thats what we wanted

so i tried a straight forward tv cable (supplied) but it wouldn't work
(nb i recoird tv from a normal arial using xp media centre - no problemo)
i've tried a scart to s-video input which doesn't work either
i've tried both normal cable and scart-svideo with settings on skybox changed to rgb but still no joy

i've tried sky and they now say they don't offer any advise regarding cnnection to a pc (even though they did prior to my new box - and the woman confirmed that the normal cable should work at the beginning of the call)

please, please, please can anyone help as sky won't take the box back and i can't afford any more hardware / cables etc
    thanks in advance

Dose your tv (unknown) have video / audio outputs ?

If so , you should be able to connect the pc to those using a capture device (pci / usb / vivo) ... you may require some cables in order to connect it correctly .

If they said it should work with a particular cable , which they supplied , then its possible its defective and they should send a tech out to check ... I'm surprised those tech's they do send to install , don't do a complete test of the setup ... most don't .

Before calling them , repeat the setup according to instruction , and if it dose not work as it should , phone then .

Not knowing whats on the back of the unit ... what outputs are available ?
If a channel is known to be encrypted , it wont appear anyway on the pc , not without some help .

  9. "aerial" output from your Sky box to aerial input on your card
and then re-scan for new channels some protected channels may not be recordable, not sure about that?
or a new card with dvb-s input, but that will only record the FTA and unprotected channels, unless you get one with a CAm (slot for your sky card, to authorise the channels).
expecting the sky guy to connect it all up

Have you set the WinTV card to UK & PAL specs.

You may also need to repeat the scan under different conditions - when I had a WinTV card a few years back I think there were VHF and UHF scans.
