  1. I have used mkvmerge to add subtitles to a mkv file and the output is showing just fine on my PC - subtitles are there, no synchro errors, everything is fine. Then I copy the mkv file to my Synology NAS and from there I stream it to my Sony Bravia TV. The video output is great, however subtitles never show.

Here are my settings for mkvmerge:

Subtitles (srt) are in bulgarian language which uses cyrillic alphabet.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Do you have any ideas what the reason for that could be? I also tried with other mkv files and their respective subtitle files (all *srt) but results are the same - great video output on Bravia and no subtitles showing at all.

  2. Forgot to mention - if I play a mkv movie with subtitle file in the same directory from a USB stick attached to the Sony Bravia TV then everything is fine. Which means this specific TV supports subtitles which means TV supports cyrillic subtitles and srt files etc. It seems I am somehow messing the mkvmerge operation or that is at least what I think.

  3. Do you have any reason to believe your TV supports SRT embedded in MKV? Most TVs and Blu-ray players don't.

Yes, I am pretty sure it does.
