This doesn't work because of several problems. Apparently the times has passed this article by!

AVISYNTH can NO LONGER serve as IPCSource. NONE of the downloads (including the latest from Avisynth.org, V2.06) has the IPCSource function. While the FAQ on avisynth.org suggests later versions, their own documentation contradict that.

If DVDX cannot serve as frame-server, then the rest of the steps is pointless.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think so. Any one got any alternatives? I am a bit tight on HD space.

Simply because IPCsource is no longer part of Avisynth since v.1.0beta6.
It was removed due to the discussions around GPL few months ago.
IPCsource now is an external plugin, that must be loaded with the LoadPlugin function. You will find the avisynthex.dll at http://www.videotools.net

Guess that tip needs to be slightly updated.

Also... the AvisynthEX.DLL is a 30-day demoware, not shareware. If you don't register by then, supposedly it stops working.

There is nothing special. IPCsource connects Avisynth with the Premiere export plugin.

    LoadPlugin("avisynthex.dll")
    IPCsource("filename")
#if you want to edit with Avisynth add filters here

  6. so when DVDx gives me an avs script, I can edit to include whatever filters and resize I want? Will those avisynth settings override the ones I made in DVDx?

I have never used DVDx, but I think so.
edit: no, it does not overwrite DVDx settings. What DVDx exports is the source for Avisynth.

I think I got it to work now... I have to turn OFF the "create AVS file" option so it doesn't overwrite my custom version of the AVS file with that "LoadPlugin" command.

I guess I'll go to sleep and see if I get a big MPG tomorrow.

In case you want to know, I'm ripping my own copy of "Run Silent, Run Deep". Bought it at Best Buy along with The Great Escape in a two pack...

Okay, when I woke up this morning, DVDX is stuck at 99.5%, and so is TMPG and the plugin. I endtasked all of them, and looked on the drive... And voila, there's this 1.2 GB MPG file, with all the proper sound and music and even subtitles.

Now I just have to write it to the CD... Maybe I can update that guide.

Is there a "cutting / fitting / splitting" guide here on how to fit a long MPG onto multiple VCD's?

Never mind, I figured it out. VCDEasy has built-in MPEG tools, which can be used to edit the MPGs with cutting and merging.
