  1. Hi everyone,

I have a MP4 video that has vobsub file as subtitles. Is there a way that I can extract it and convert it into srt file . I've tried everything including MKVtoolkit and MKVextractor Gui, but they only work on MKV format, and if I try to convert the MP4 into the MKV, I'll lose the vobsub file. I did try Subtitles Edit but as I tried to import the video, it told me that I need DVD or Bluray format to do so, and since I can't extract the vobsub, I can't use that option either. It seems like I run out of idea of what to do. Anyone can help????

  2. Post a mediainfo report (text mode) of your mp4 file here.

You shouldn't lose the subtitle fonts when converting mp4 to mkv with mkvmerge,it works with mp4 and keeps subs.

  5. And I'm not really sure how would you use MKVmerge separately since from what I know, it's a part of MKVtool Kit. It's true that MKVtool Kit can read MP4 file, but when I start multiplexing, I got a MKV video that has the hardsub subtitle embedded instead. I'm not sure how would you extract that subtitle from there.

You can't remove hard encoded subs, they are part of the video, all you can do is either bare with them or try to blur them out or you can put in soft subs that can kinda cover them.

  7. I don't think the subtitles in my video is hard-sub since I have an option to display them or not. In fact, it seems to me that they are just like softsub but as a different format (Vobsub) . Therefore, what I want to do is extract the file out of the video, which I haven't been able to do it so far.

You did say that your mkv had a hardsub.Use mkvmerge GUI to remove the sub.

  9. MKVmerge Gui only works with MKV format. My video is MP4, therefore it do not take it.

  10. You can try mp4box to demux all streams

    Code:
    MP4Box -raw * input.mp4
