  3. Thank you, thank you all the builders and their builds which work in Win7/8.1.

It's been a long time since I last logged in here, just to say kudos, though I do visit VideoHelp and Doom9 as usual but too lazy to log in.

Please continue making builds compatible with Win7/8.1 as long as possible.

I am finally able to use an MKVToolNix version greater than v68 now.

I only recently found out about these after reading a Reddit post where HubbleC4 replied and pointed out the Doom9 Forum counterpart.

    Belated thanks to autodidact.

Been too busy lately, and also having to deal with Windows 8.1 on a second-hand laptop.

I still am tweaking the g0dd@mn thing to make it usable.

One thing to note about Windows 8.1 with regards to mkvtoolnix is that the CLI programs from the Qt6 based official build do work.
It is only the GUI that does not work.

Of course that is no consolation for having to use Windows 8.1.

I wonder if someday the Qt5 builds are sooner available than the Qt6 ones

Ha ha! That would be a neat trick.

I'll have to work on that.

If you can teach us how to do that.
Transform latest mkvtoolnix version into win7 compatible version.

For the record, it looks like this program is using Qt6 but it's working fine on Windows 7 and 8.1: https://github.com/Mercury13/unicodia

There are known methods for making some Qt6 based programs run on Windows 7/8.1. Those methods depend on a program being built dynamic/shared and that it use only a limited set of Qt libraries. MKVtoolnix for Windows is built statically and it links to quite a few Qt libraries which generally precludes the use of those methods. A dynamic/shared build of MKVtoolnix could be tested though if someone were so inclined.

    No you don't understand.
The whole idea with trashing good operating system instead of patching it, is dumb.

When covid appeared no one suggested to have our immune system replaced, but instead they made remedy as vaccine for the virus.

Same should be with operating system. Telling people it's 'outdated' is very stupid and made-up word by marketing people who only want to push sales up of new product - no it's not. It's like telling 80yrs french wine is outdated, or Eiffel Tower is outdated. Do you understand?

So we could be with XP still today if company made updates to it and its core. And security flaws are not fault of customers, so the only party you should blame is Microsoft that they didn't patch it. maybe governments should force them to do it, or impose penalty of 20% of income or so.

    Here is release version 76.0.

    Note:
The latest code has introduced Qt5 incompatibility. Specifically this commit which uses Qt 6.5.0 to support dark mode functionality on Windows 11.
    https://gitlab.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/-/commit/611c900b2dd8f8e7ca9f800ae9fac37b78be887d
Qt5 does not recognize the references to Windows 11 and as a result the GUI fails to compile. The CLI programs are not affected. This release has that commit reversed. All other features and fixes are up to date.
