  1. I wrote some weeks back about my new NEC 3540A failing right after I bought it from Newegg. It was the 2nd NEC drive to fail on me shortly after purchase, so I had to vent a bit.

Well, Newegg would only send me a replacement 3540A, and it sat on my bookshelf for a while until I had time to put it in last night. Since installing it, I've burned a half-dozen or so disc images and followed up with cd-dvd speed tests to examine its performance. I am here to eat some crow...

    The burns are FANTASTIC!

My Pioneer has long been my burner of choice, but it simply can not match the numbers I'm seeing with this NEC 3540A. It's very impressive with DVD Decryptor, and a bit less with Nero. I just wanted to let everyone know that, while I resented having to return the bad one, I'm willing to admit that it gives the Pioneer all it can handle. And maybe even a little bit more.

Thanks for the feedback. When appropriate a dish of crow can be very good for one's well being.
