    Hello all,

I have a Samsung Smart TV and Sony home theatre system both of them only support up to DD+. But I have a collection of HD movies (Bluray ripped) which only has DTS audio tracks in them. So, I'm planning to demux the DTS track using an application like tsmuxer then convert that track into E-AC-3 and finally mux them all back together. So, I can play movies using dlna and still keep DTS. I have the following questions if you can advice please?
    1) What is the best software (preferable freeware) that can convert DTS to E-AC-3 without loss of surround quality?
    2) Reason I'm sticking to E-AC-3 is it is more latest format but what bitrate would you recommend say if source DTS track is 1500kb/s?

    Thanks in advance.

Popcorn MKVAudioconverter and do it. The item you want is listed under the File menu and not the tabs as Simple Audio conversion. It will do it in situ in one go.
SONY 75" Full array 200Hz LED TV, Yamaha A1070 amp, Zidoo UHD3000, BeyonWiz PVR V2 (Enigma2 clone), Chromecast, Windows 11 Professional, QNAP NAS TS851

Thank you, but shouldn't the output_eac3 extension be .eac3 instead of mka?

If you want a "raw" eac3 stream, yes, otherwise you add the switch -c:a eac3 for wrapping the stream in a media container (.mkv, .ts, .avi, ETC).

    Thank you.

FFmpeg seems to have the done trick. What bitrates do you guys usually stick with when converting from DTS to EAC3? Also, is it converting or re-encoding?
